We ease ourselves gently into the new week with a pleasant little diatribe from pro-democrat lawmaker Kwok Ka-ki, who says Hong Kong infrastructure projects are turning into Mainland-style money-losing tofu-dregs white elephants, about which our increasingly lame legislature can do nothing. (Full text is here for now.)
Mainstream pan-dems are mostly comfortable discussing abstract high-minded principles rather than skewering the government where it hurts – which this does. Then again, Dr Kwok is known for not giving a damn.
Just like someone I saw on a rare visit to my local gwailo-pub. It is apparently not only acceptable these days to bring a baby into a beer-den, but to prop up a toy-but-real video screen in front of the infant, so it can watch Peppa Pig (or something) and sooth/stimulate/rot its mind along with all the boozing adults…
Well, I was raised the same way, and look how I turned out.
Well since they have high chairs I guess it’s not a one off. Makes sense for the pub, prepping the next generation of customers and all that
Anything to keep the brats quiet. Personally, I’d also add gin to the milk.
Headphones would hurt its sensitive little ears, you monster!
What good companions we are,
Together at the bar.
I can have a moderate drink
And meditate and think,
Or watch the video, share the fun,
Bonding with my son.
A poor chap sitting on his own
Fiddled with his phone
And nimbly toook a photo of us.
Everyone will love us,
And in these new millennial days
Congratulate and praise:
A tender image, kind and good,
Of modern fatherhood.
What’s with the censorship of the photo? They are in a _public_ house – they have no reasonable expectation of privacy!
