…over the next few days.
Everyone debates the financial pros and cons of renting versus buying a home. Another consideration is the hassle of packing everything up every few years. A nightmare. But then again, there’s an upside to it. I estimate that around 20-25% of the total volume of everything in my current apartment – including furniture – is being ditched (recycled or trashed). The sheer amount of space occupied by unwanted/unnecessary junk is incredible. Clothes, linen, old appliances, utensils, cutlery, tote bags, surplus this, unusable that. Huge quantities of it. But then I’m not Marie Kondo.

Since she had kids, even Marie Kondo is not ‘Marie Kondo’. She says her “home is messy, but it’s the right way for me at this stage of my life”.
So if, say, your stage of life is ‘grumpy old man’, then your home should reflect that. Perhaps yesterday’s SCMP conveniently open on the sofa, phone-charging cables in every corner of every room, and some judiciously placed beer cans peeking out from under the table. Or maybe that’s just me.
