I visited Hunter Bookstore over the weekend. Quite crowded, with a slight ‘closing down sale” vibe – though the store is issuing customer-loyalty cards as if it expects to be around for the long term.
As well as some local volumes, a lot of the stock comprises Taiwan-published translations of international works, including a nice selection of Japanese manga, such as the magnificent Spy Family and, of course, Hunter X Hunter. Among the possibly subversive titles on sale: several by Hannah Arendt; The Dalai Lama’s Cat; one on the collapse of the workers’ paradises that are ant and bee colonies; and Chili & Cheese: Food and Society in Bhutan – perhaps too spicy for Hong Kong.
Did you notice if the Drone Ovehead banner is still in place and some dodgy blokes hanging around on the junction?
