THE SPIN ON CATHAY PACIFIC

Here's a wonderful example of Post spin for you:

Both Sunday English-language papers' front page leads dealt with the Cathay pilots' industrial action.

Headline in the Sunday Standard: "No sign of a breakthrough in pay talks".

Headline in the Sunday Post: "Cathay and pilots edge closer".

The NTSCMP airline correspondent, Wally Wilde, had dinner at home with a senior Cathay pilot on Saturday and was told that the meeting earlier that day between pilots and management had resulted in deadlock.

But why would the Post want to distort the truth?

A look at Cathay's company profile published in The Industry Standard - the
newsmagazine of the Internet economy -- states:

"The Swire Group owns 44% of Cathay Pacific Airways, and state-owned China International Trust & Investment owns another 25%."

Ah-ha!
